From practice to theory and back
We are a small collective of people who have been active in the left movement for years – mainly in the climate justice movement. We were disillusioned to realize that our struggles have not led to their goals. The climate is collapsing, fascism is on the rise, patriarchy is firmly in the saddle and so on…
The movement must change and find new ways to change this. Our aim is therefore to contribute to this by writing texts on various topics.
We see a certain disenchantment with theory in the movement and, on the other, a major classism[1] problem. Who reads books? Who understands the language used in books? Who reinvents the wheel, even though this is sometimes not necessary? And who gets lost in dogmatism[2] and movement folklore[3]?
Accordingly, it is important to us that our texts are linguistically understandable and free of charge, so that they are as accessible as possible.
Of course, we don’t have all the answers either. We therefore welcome criticism, additions, guest contributions and comments.
- [1] Classism – discrimination based on class affiliation; a class system is a hierarchical division of a society into different classes; classes can be constructed based on differences in wealth & income, culture, ethnicity, educational level and other factors; all class systems create inequality and different participation of people
- [2] Dogmatism – an opinion or doctrine held as absolutely true and universally valid by its proponents without critical scrutiny
- [3] Movement folklore – traditions (e.g. rituals and customs) of the left-wing movement such as May Day demonstrations
